The Runestone’s Promise

It’s the year 1799 and Gertine’s quiet life as a young farm wife is upended when her mother, Mette, inexplicably calls off her sister’s wedding, days away. Inspired by a runestone she finds in the woods, Gertine embarks on a journey, following clue to clue in her need to understand. As she uncovers the story of her mother’s past, she gains so much more than the truth.

Mari discovered the bones of this story in a genealogy book compiled by her mother’s cousin. With more research, she created this fictionalized telling of her fifth and sixth-great-grandmothers, set in a time when the kingdom was called Denmark-Norway.
