The Runestone’s Promise
It’s the year 1799 and Gertine’s quiet life as a young farm wife is upended when her mother, Mette, inexplicably calls off her sister’s wedding, days away. Inspired by a runestone she finds in the woods, Gertine embarks on a journey, following clue to clue in her need to understand. As she uncovers the story of her mother’s past, she gains so much more than the truth.
I discovered the bones of this story in a genealogy book compiled by my mother’s cousin. With more research, I created this fictionalized telling of my fifth and sixth-great-grandmothers, set in a time when the kingdom was called Denmark-Norway.

IN THE WORKS:
Three estranged siblings are gathered for the reading of their overbearing mother’s will. They learn that Cleah has set stringent and exhaustive requirements over the year following her death, in order to inherit – including having to share custody of her urn and gather for holidays and birthdays. These rules test the sanity of the siblings by going to extremes, dictating even what to wear, what food to serve, what games to play – with more surprises to come.
The Stolen Watch
On the last day of a service trip in Ecuador, a young nun-in-training on a crowded bus realizes her watch was just stolen. On impulse, Cass steals it back, using a highlighter pen to the man’s ribs. Upon returning to the hotel, she finds her watch there and realizes she’s stolen a stranger’s watch, at “gunpoint”, dressed in full nun habit! She resolves to return it, launching into an odyssey of misadventure, discovery, and transformation.
